SHOP NEWS: Additional Tipples
Cellar News: Additional Tipples

We have a brand new, superior, still, white wine available, which is produced in our local vineyard in Dingleden - 'Benenden Bacchus'. Pop along and grab one to go with a delicious Sunday lunch or put a couple away for a festive Christmas meal with family or friends.
With the recent recent village visit to the Harvey's Brewery in mind (see the November edition of Benenden Magazine) and another wonderful Benenden’s wine tasting evening on the horizon it seems appropriate to look at additional tipples on offer at the shop.
There is a fine selection of beers including a range of specialist beers from family-run Romney Marsh Brewery situated by the sea on the border of Kent and Sussex. Each ale has its own distinctive flavour and recommendation as to which food it might accompany. Romney beers are made from locally sourced hops including whole flower ones. Likewise, Old Dairy Brewery, originally set up in a remote, disused milking parlour, now operating from a new brewery in WW2 Nissen Buildings off Tenterden High Street, is well represented in Benenden’s.
On the shelves you will find beers to enhance all seasons, from light and fruity to a real winter warmer as well as ‘The Dark Side of Moo’, a speciality ale offering a punchy 7% ABV!
The recent addition of Harvey's, brewed in Lewes and served in both our local pubs, completes a fine set of local ales.
For those who might prefer something a little fruitier, there is also a choice of scrumptious local ciders. Biddenden vineyard, already well known for its wine, also produces ciders made from carefully selected Kentish dessert apples. In the shop, these popular wine-like ciders are available in dry, medium and sweet and there is a speciality cider, named ‘Red Love’ which is made with red fleshed apples to give it its natural, distinctive pink colouring. Also on sale in Benenden’s is Wise Owl Cider, winner of the 2015 Taste of Kent Award for best cider.
Based in Tenterden, Wise Owl’s founders have gleaned much of their expertise from their frequent visits to the West Country. Their apples are sourced from Pluckley and Bodiam; milled, pressed and left to ferment for two months after which the cider is matured in tanks for a further four months, producing well rounded, dry or medium, slightly sparkling cider.
Considering this enticing range at Benenden’s, there seems to be little reason to deny ourselves a very enjoyable tipple!
